In 2002, Khris dedicated his life to fight for our country. But it turned out to be a battle of a different kind he had to overcome – one that threatened to destroy his and his family’s life.
After being medically discharged from the Army following a knee injury, just one day after he married his best friend Emma, Khris was left unemployed and feeling hopeless.
Unfortunately, his knee didn’t recover and what followed was a 10-year struggle with physical pain, mental health challenges, and the search for stability and rehabilitation.
Without the right support, the flow on effects of any injury can be very difficult and isolating for the entire family, including the partner.
Thankfully Khris and Emma found Mates4Mates before it was too late and with our support, they found light at the end of the tunnel.
For Khris, Emma and their two children Charlotte and Jethro, who regularly participate in social connection activities, life has now improved.
Khris also successfully completed our Skills Training in Affective & Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) Program and is now able to connect better with his family, and Emma has found support through psychology sessions, giving her more energy for her family and the tools to manage her anxiety.
Khris and Emma are not alone. There are thousands of veterans and their families who need support. They can’t do it alone and neither can we.
Help us reach our goal of $25,000 so that we can continue providing vital support services, like our STAIR Program.
$25,000 will enables Mates4Mates to facilitate six 12-week STAIR Programs a year across each of our Family Recovery Centres, helping over 50 veterans better manage their emotions and distress tolerance as they navigate through injury and trauma.
When veterans are supported, their whole family benefits. With your help we can reach so many more people and positively impact hundreds of lives.
Your tax-deductible donation will save lives.
